Royland Southgate

I have two R. Southgate rifles, no. 529 and 608,  what is a typical value for these?  One is flintlock the other is percussion.

It's been a couple of years since I saw a Royland Southgate rifle for sale, but seems like the price range was $500 to $1000.   

http://www.cowanauctions.com/auctions/item.aspx?ItemId=38907   shows a Southgate gun that brought just under $1000 in 2006.  I'd expect the price to have inflated a little in the last 7 years, but don't know how much.

For more recent or concrete data points, you might try Google searches on Southgate Tennessee Maid and see what turns up.

I remember that day in 1953 when E.M.Farris called me and said he had
a Southgate flintlock rifle. Royland Southgate was one of the first to make
new muzzle loaders to order.I think he made his own locks and triggers
but don't know about the barrels.There were few in that day making them.

Of related interest, I have a John and Peter Moll FL swivel rifle (original) with a "new" fore stock signed in one of the barrel channels "1947 Southgate". Nice job and fooled 2 of us who thought it was original to the gun until I pulled the barrels.

Longknife, I saved the photos from that Gunsamerica rifle, though it was priced about 3-4X too high in my very humble opinion.

Smokepole7 hope it is OK for me to quote you in my little book. Up to about 50 pages now & just got a quote from my Favorite Canadian bookguy for some softbound. Rearranging it, adding a photo or two.
Even The Saturday Evening Post had mention of Southgate in an article by Ashley Halsey, Jr., Nov '55

    He made and rifled his barrels . His lock plate and hammer he made but bought the internals rough from Russ Hamm and finished and fitted them to suit himself .
