make or buy simple gravers???
« on: August 18, 2016, 04:32:10 AM »
After purchasing a half dozen or so "ready made" gravers I now think that they are not what I need.
Saw a great video and the man said all I need is a 1/8" square graver.
Anyome know weher I can buy on, or how and what to use to make one.
I dont want nuttin' fancy, just for simple lines, maybe initials on metal work??
Thanks

Bigmon, I have 1/8 (.113) x 2 1/2" long square graver blanks for sale. These are blanks, not sharpened. Let me know how many you need. Jerry email: jerry-pc@comcaast.net

Straight lines and block initials are some of the most difficult things to engrave.  Not fancy, but also, not easy.

I make gravers from 1/8" square O1 tool steel that I get from McMaster-Carr.

Buy 1/8 lathe tools and grind the angles.

Flats can be very useful as well.

But the rest is pretty much a waste of time for what would be on a longrifle or the things that go with it.

Stullers.com  gravers are high quality and not expensive.  You will need to put the sole on them.

Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.
