Attaching under ribs

I bought an original barrel that appeared to have been re-purposed to half-stock use. The under rib was fasten using screws through the rib into drilled and tapped dovetail inserts (he made steel inserts to fit the existing dove tail cut in the barrel then drilled and tapped them for screws. It looked like he had cut and extra dove tail between the mid and muzzle end dove tail. I was holding good and no worry about drilling too deep in the barrel or dimpling the bore with rivets.

I did something similar on my halfstock chunk gun, cut dovetails to make the bbl look cut down/repurposed and attached insert to rib.  I soldered, but only because I didn't think of coryjoes method at time.  It would be a great way to attach wooden rib, also.  Nice to know a precedent existed on an original.
