Bought this at a trade blanket. What is a good fit for this horn?

Color might rule out scrimshaw, might make a Banded Horn.or if thick enough ,engrailing/cameo,family horn.. I set those aside and wait for them to speak to me as to what they want to be..

What Henry said. When it spoke to me it was with a Tennessee accent.

I would measure the hollow, mark it, cut the tip and drill the hole. It is quite a large horn, length wise, so I would also shorten the base. Then see what you have, it may be easier to visualize a direction after the trimming. As for the color you can always make it darker and that should even it out.

Robby, If it said, "Yall when it spoke to you, that would indicate it was a Southern Banded Horn.or if it said, I'am afixing to be ....that would be a Carolina horn..

It looks like a left hand horn to me, but feels ok either way. Paid $15.00 for it. Did I do ok?

Make it into a fancy drinking horn and sell or trade it to some meandering Viking.

I had one very similar to that , and just used a piece from the base to make a container for my "char "    .  Nate's idea of a rumlet sounds good too

I have enough powder horns, and I remember a hunting horn that my Grandfather used to call his fox hounds, hanging on his porch. He ran fox hounds in south central Illinois from the late 1800's to the 1950's. I could never get a good sound from his, and it disappeared after his death on the early 70's.

My grandson plays the trumpet, so this will be his hunting horn. The cord is artificial sinew with a flemish splice eye.
