Stemmed Horn Drinking Glass

sometimes we don`t get perfect material to work with so I thought about it for a second and after 1 1/2 hours what I came up with the next set of pictures


a nice stemmed horn drinking cup with olive wood base its 4 1/2 inches high and 1 1/2 inch diameter at the top and then tapers down

I have been looking for just the right horn for over a year to do that again. You hit the nail on the head when you said you we don't always get the right material for what we had in mind. I have come to the conclusion that an entirely open mind is probably the best for looking for material.
This was a beautiful outcome from a piece that at first glance was unusable.

Tim,
everything is done on the lathe after cutting a section out of the tip that is about the straightest I can get . i turn it between centers to get it shaped and rounded then cut a tenon for my chuck and then hollow out the inside the finish shaping

Very nicely done and some pretty incredible out of the box thinking!
Just out of curiosity, how would you seal it to make it 'food safe', prevent staining, etc?

No need to seal it at all I polish the inside up really good no smell or nothing horn was used for cups a long time . I know some people have issue with using the natural material  but its safe to use
