Thanks for the comments guys. I have been working hard on this rifle and I hope to have it ready for the CLA show.

Bill I have made this type of release a couple of times now and it is really growing on me. I have a couple more projects that I will probably use this type of release on.

Draken the white looking inlays are cut and formed from sterling sheet that I get from Rio Grande. In my research of the amount of silver in coins available during colonial times and the amount of silver in sterling is very close in silver content. I think it is closer in silver content than many of our modern silver coins. The main thing I like about the sterling sheet is it has a consistant thickness and it is dead soft from the beginning. There is a lot more work to get coins down to inlay thickness and then you have to anneal before you start making the inlay, get rid of hammer marks and the such. I feel I can give a better product for less work at current silver cost and not worry about distroying an antique coin in the process. It may not be as romantic to say that I cut it from sterling sheet instead of saying I pounded all the inlays out of coin but to be honest I cannot tell the difference when all the work is done.

Beautiful rifle Bama. Like everyone else has said, that Patchbox release is nice. I think I remember reading about such a release in Peter Alexander's Book. Great work!

you guys set the bar awfully high.   i think THIS is the "golden age of the longrifle".
i'd need two lifetimes to get near the skill level i see here.
