Selecting a style.
« on: November 11, 2016, 06:33:21 PM »
I am in the process of planning my first build.
My knowledge of the different styles is close to nil. My Longrifle was described as an "early transition model".
Based on the info I gathered, I'm thinking a Lancaster style is along the lines of what I want. There is no specific task for this gun, ie target, hunting, it will be purely a recreational rifle.
I have a 44" .36 caliber swamped barrel with tapered tang already to use.
Opinions on this choice and also on options much appreciated!

A Early Lancaster style would be a good choice IMHO. 50 or 54  cal. single simple trigger. Large Siler or Dale Johnson lock. Swamped barrel of course.

I'd go with a late style gun with that barrel.

That caliber is perfect for squirrel. I'd take Mike's advice about a later gun(early guns are usually larger calibers).   That said, there are lots of options. Tenn rifle, a Lehigh, a Bedford?

 A slim 44" .36 on a Bedford rifle - NICE!

The advice is much appreciated.
I have settled on a Tennessee Rifle, using the plans from TOW.
