Barrel maker ?
« on: November 13, 2016, 05:32:44 PM »
Bought this "Hawken style" rifle at a show yesterday. Widow said it was her husband's "shooter." Has a 30 inch by 1 inch barrel and carries the table "???ON RIFLE BARREL CO. 50 CAL". The lock is "L & R" but do not know the model. Who made the barrel and trigger? Thanks for your help.

John,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I am very new to muzzleloaders and am enjoying learning about them. Apparently I have a Sharon Trade Rifle made from a kit. They featured 30 inch barrel with a 1 in 72 twist in 50 caliber. The lock and trigger were made by L & R. The ramrod is a more contemporary replacement. Plan to take it to the range in a few days.
Sorry the pix did not come through. i obviously do not know how to post them.

Welcome aboard charlie44gs!

As we all like looking at photos, here's something that may help ...

Posting photographs to ALR; here is a link providing alternative picture hosting sites to our old standby Photobucket, which is rapidly falling out of favor on ALR due to excessive advertising and low speed. Here is the link to our recent discussion about moving away from Photobucket...

Smoketown,
Thanks for pointing me toward post images. I registered on that site and posted my pix there. Now I do not know how to them to an ALR post. I did post them on face book's CLA group. I would appreciate any guidance you can offer.
Thanks,
Charlie

I just remembered the recent post about pictures.

Charlie,

Go to the site where you posted your pictures.  There should be a link you can copy.  The link will start with [IMG].  After you copy the entire link, come back to ALR and paste the link into the reply you want the picture to appear in.

I think I followed your instructions on posting pix. Here goes.

Took it to the range today for first time. At 50 yards two groups of 5 were in an 8 inch circle. Not bad since neither sights nor the target were in focus.

Charlie,

You were almost there with the picture posting.  I added the [IMG] before your link and the /IMG enclosed in [] after the link so the actual pictures would appear.
