Stamp sets with old timeie fonts?
« on: November 29, 2016, 01:14:05 AM »
Where can I get them for stamping barrels etc. ?  I was hoping to find some, cyrillic?,  font stamps that look more like old Winchester or Colt ?  I sometimes want to mark a barrel for caliber or a lockplate.  I also do work on single shot breechloaders.  Although I have a jig that works really well, the stamps are not so hot.  I got them from Brownells.  The font is so plain and modern looking I hate to use it on anything that represents a time before 1900.   Any suggestion on an outfit that makes such stamp sets.  Before it is suggested, I don't have the skill to engrave tiny little numbers.   ;D

Thanks,

Scot

I too have been keeping an eye out for a stamp set with a more suitable, older style, font. Hope someone knows of a source.

A friend of mine has accumulated nearly a dozen sets of antique stamps by being patient and searching ebay constantly.
When a nation forgets her skill in war, when her religion becomes a mockery, when the whole nation becomes a nation of money-grabbers, then the wild tribes, the barbarians drive in... Who will our invaders be? From whence will they come?

Scota, I don't think you want Cyrrilic unless you are wanting to build Ruskii guns ;D

If I remember correctly the old P53 Enfield rifle muskets had stamps that were Roman Una Pica.

Infinity Stamps has several older style fonts  in both number and letter
https://www.infinitystamps.com/collections/alphabet-stamps
They are not cheap though!

Another possibility is Impressart in NY
http://www.impressart.com/products/letter-stamps.html

They have a number of selections of which a few are probably suitible for what we do here.
The CAnterbury and Newsprint styles would look OK I think,,at least better than the plain block lettering of most available stamps out there.
Prices are a bit easier on the credit card too.
