Mike,

I think "Orion" is the name you're looking for.  There's some info on them at this link http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=2992.0

Those barrels are no good.  You should send them to me so I can dispose of them safely for you.

I also used Jerry's barrels and still have a few. Way back when other brand of barrels were hard to come by Dixon's was selling Orion barrels at a fair price and they were very good barrels. I never had a issue with accuracy, rough bores, or a bent barrel all shot to point of aim and were consistent group shooters with different charges (same patch & ball size) ;).

I have used several Orion barrels.  I bought a bunch from them when they went out of business and were selling them for $10 @.  They are good barrels.

After several inquires on the barrels I asked about. I wanted to let the forum know.  The barrels we're acquired from a friend who no longer builds guns. When I got them they had some surface rust an minor surface pitting. Some minor draw filling will clean them up. Bores appear to be very good. When I last talked to my friend he told me he bought them from Orion a long time ago. There are no markings on the barrels. I have known this man for forty plus years an I trust him. If you have any other questions please p.m. me if interested. Thank you Oldtravler

What length and calibers are these barrels? Orion barrels were made with the tools from the old Montana barrels company.

Anyone else remember the debate many years ago about the steel appropriate for barrel use?  Ongoing discussion in The Buckskin Report.  Focused on whether leaded free cutting steel was suitable for barrels.  Orion defended their use of this type of steel.

Are these barrels for sale, or is this just a posting asking for information?

I have owned Orion barrels and found them to be as good as any you might want.  They used to make an 1 1/8" straight .72 caliber that I never quite worked out load wise.  Even with Fg it gave me a headache to shoot it and I never got enough powder in it to get a decent trajectory.  No problem with accuracy, though.

Yes, and it's been discussed here on ALR quite a few times too.

I have spoken with the OP and this thread is asking for information.  If he decides to sell, he will make a post in the For Sale section.

To hopefully avoid confusion, I have merged the 2 topics "Oryan or Ryan gun barrels" and "Orion Barrels" into this one thread.
