J.P.Beck

Greetings,
I am gathering parts, information, &c. for building a rifle in the style of J.P. Beck. For my last build (a British-style fowling gun) I found Flintlock Fowlers by Tom Grinslade to be an invaluable resource, wherefore I was wondering what similar books or resources there are that show the works of J.P.Beck.

The book by Susan Bicio on Lancaster carving has some of J.P.Beck examples in it and they are well done . I think Ryan Robers of Muzzleloader Builders Supply has them for sale.

The book Rifles of Colonial America, Vol.2 shows 3 guns by J.P. Beck, plus one that is attributed.  All photos are in black and white.

The more recent book An Intimate Look at The American Longrifle Its Art and Evolution by Dave Hansen shows one J.P. Beck gun in color.

Also, there are several J.P. Beck pieces shown here in the ALR Virtual Museum and Library.

There are color pictures of two brass box J. P. Beck guns in the Lancaster Longrifle by Patrick Hornberger & John Kolar.

There are color pictures of two JPB's in Masterpieces of the American Longrifle by Patrick Hornberger & Joe Kindig III (one has a wood box, one is the "Lion Beck").

The Pennsylvania-Kentucky Rifle, a Lancaster Legend by J. Wayne Heckert & Don Vaughn has several color pictures too.

If you do a search under Antique Firearms collecting for "Frazier Museum J P Beck" you will find a detailed study
I did in 2009 of the "Washington Beck". The topic has detailed measurements and many pix.

All the best

Along with those mentioned, I like "The Kentucky Rifle, a True American Heritage in Pictures" by the KRA. It has a variety of JP Beck's.
Also "GUNSMITHS OF LANCASTER COUNTY,  PENNSYLVANIA" by James Biser Whisker, has a few.

Good Luck!
