Seeing this post got me to thinking. I don't remember ever reading much about him. I 've never seen a born date or a date of death. I'm sure he died before photography came in to wide use.  I believe most of, if not all the guns I've seen of his were 1800 to 1815 or so. I don't recall any pre 1800 rifles or 1830 ones . I have always enjoyed his work and at one time owned one . It had to go so I could move on to something else. Collecting works that way sometimes.
His engraving tool must have been a nail from the looks of his work!  (LOL).

 There were some posts dealing with his genealogy a while back, I don't recall all of them exactly although I do have some private correspondence w/ the descendant who was researching him.  At the time there was mention of a KRA bulletin article or something like that, but I've not seen any public follow up.  Would love to see more info, as his work is extremely interesting and definitely deserving of attention.

I'm not going to post too much but based upon what was told to me, he died in the 1850s and was up in Albany twp., Berks Co which makes perfect sense as some of his work is often confused with the George family.  Most of his surviving work, given his age, is likely 1810-1830 period.

Supposedly, the descendant who is a member here (Dakota60) is working with a few other people and at some point more info will be forthcoming.  Very much looking forward to it.

His grave is about 2mi. from Dixon's Gunshop. The stone is written in German:
Christoffer "Stoffel" Long    August 22 1791- October 11, 1858.
In some records his name is spelled Lang. Some of his deed transfers, shop inventory, and rifle pictures are published in the book  Northern Berks County Pennsylvania Gunmakers Featuring Stoffel Long of Greenwich and Albany Townships by Dave Laidacker. 2016- no ISBN no.  I have 2 of his rifles, one of which is in the book. When we get a decent day I'll take some pictures and post them.
