Fore arm thickness
« on: February 11, 2017, 01:03:17 AM »
I know this topic has been discussed here before but I'm working on an English style half stock flinter and am wondering if 3/16 or 1/8 th inch thickness along side of the barrel would be close to what the originals were. Asking for opinions.

I would not go any more than 1/8th or a bit less.   Bob

Thanks Bob. It is around 1/4 inch now and I plan to thin it down but was wondering about how much. I had planed on going to about 3/16 and looking it over to see how it looked and felt. It has a tapered barrel so I plan on putting some taper in the forestock bottom and sides too.

The lock bolster and plate thickness determine the width of the wood on the lock side of the stock.  Then the lock panels taper down to the forearm.  A lot of the stock dimensions are determined by the parts and this is one of them.
