Steel stamps-who

I'd like to purchase a maker's name stamp and town town stamp.  I have a 20-hydrolic press.  So, I want a cube shape stamp rather than one that I wack with a big hammer.  My name  is 11 characters, the town is 7 characters.  I want a font appropriate to 1840.   Who makes these?  I had an outfit book marked but I lost it.

You might try Brownells in Montezuma, Iowa. I think they had a source for such items to be custom made years ago.

The one thing I would caution you about is trying to use large (i.e. multiple letter) stamps to impress a full name or town on the barrel all at once.  In industry, the usual method is to "roll stamp" where a circular roller impresses each letter one at a time to make a clear impression but not requiring the force necessary to impress them all at once.  I would be concerned that using a press and a large stamp in the central portion of a barrel would distort the bore.  The link above has a couple of sources for stamps and a quick google search may come up with a supplier in your area.

I am hoping to do this type of thing.  My last name is 3 characters longer.  The town is the same number of characters.  It appears that a single stamp was used for S. Hawken and a second one for St Louis.  I am envisioning using my press to apply the impression.  The pressure gauge sold let me see the stamp push in the characters.    A dial indicator could be rigged too. 

Then again I certainly could lash up a roll stamp and use my milling machine to apply the pressure and move the barrel. 

I certainly don't want to squash a barrel.
