Have been wanting to do one of these for awhile. Over all it is 37", the tip is about 5/8" and at the top it is about 1 1/4". The Blade is 20" and the handle about 5 1/2", so overall 25 1/2".
The shaft is Maple, I split it down the middle and inlet half the thickness of the blade on either side. I had already cut down and reshaped the blade, I took about 8 1/2" off of it. It came from a Sword I found at a Flea Market, from what I could get from the markings it was German made. On one side, about 3" in, I inlet a flat spring to hold the blade in, a piece of Steel Strap was used for the spring. a small screw holds it in place. Then it was glued back together, TiteBond III and clamped up, I cannot find the seam. I left the blade in it so I could move it every once in awhile to keep any extra glue from closing up the opening.
All the shaping was done by hand, using a straight edge and soot to try and keep the high spots out.
The handle is from a very large Whitetail, two pins hold it in place. It has a Brass cap on it as does the Stick, I pinned those on as well. The Four Pewter bands were poured in place, I figured they would help hold things together. The Eight Brass Hearts, front and back, are inlet and held with Two pins each, I tried to taper them as they went down the shaft. The tip is turned Antler, I threaded it and the cane itself, a Brass bolt goes up through it and screws it all together.
