 Did original early N.W. trade guns have iron butt plates or Brass?  Or Both?

I have seen a few originals and they all had brass butt plates I have never heard of any haveing an iron butt plate

There is a North West Trade gun in the Idaho Historical Foundation storage room,
has a nailed on iron but plate and a brass trigger guard, it's missing the barrel and the lock, pretty rough condition,
