For reference, this is No. 1 in Bivin's NC rifle book and is illustrated in one of the Accouterments books as well. The only digital pic I have is this one:
What is known about this rifle? The only reference to it that I've found here on the forum (
http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=365.msg3623#msg3623) was from nine years ago, in which a couple people commented that it might be a Virginia piece rather than a NC piece. In short, not much to go on.
Anything come to light since then? One thing that doesn't seem to show up well in a lot of pictures is that it has a small but distinct stepped wrist. I get the impression that the subtle stepped wrist is more of a Virginia thing (PA rifles tend to be either straight stocked, have more pronounced steps, or belong to the Lehigh school).
Can't say that this is my favorite architecture, but I'm curious as to where it fits.
