First:  welcome to this site.  You will find a big group of supportive and knowledgeable builders/shooters here.

And Second:  a great project.  Keep us in the loop with text and photos of the build/s, please.

Good on you both.  Nice to hear about someone from the younger crowd interested in this and not completely wrapped up in texting.  Keep us posted on your progress.

Cool! I find having two really similar projects like that on my benches go surprisingly quickly as I have the tools out only one time for each operation. The process goes more efficiently that way. I only separate them when finishing. BJH

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Reminds me of "On The Job Training", OJT. You do it he watches, he does it you watch and give direction, Great idea for training, two projects at once instead of one, has many possibilities in many areas.
 keep us posted.

Thanks, Tim C. (The one with the "R"  :D)

seniorsgt, I applaud you for your watch-and-learn project:  it's seriously cool!  Makes me wish my grandkids lived closer; I'd borrow your idea.

This is what having kids and grandkids is all about:  quality time together, while teaching a useful skill set.

Welcome to the site. A wonderful project you and your grandson have planned. I have a grandson that has had his own space in my shop since he was a toddler. I'm sure you will come out of this project with a lot more than two rifles. Good luck.        Bob

Doing the same project together is a good idea.  However,  you need to supervise carefully.   Otherwise, Accraglass is probably in his future.   I know that from experience.   That said, he probably isn't really going to learn a lot until it does it for himself.   That also means that mistakes are inevitable.    You are just trying to keep them from being real big.

showed grandson how to draw file the barrel flats but those Rice barrels really don't need it. starting him on some metal prep first. next visit ill have him square the breech in the stock and fit the lollipop tang to barrel. With his archery shoots this is starting a little slower than we planed.
