check out the gravers used by Wallace Gusler, and Herschel House in their videos. They are shop made, only three different gravers, a square graver, a wriggle graver, and an oval graver. that is pretty much what all long rifles were engraved with. most of the old masters weren't very good engravers. Even the hammers these two famous modern gunsmiths use aren't anything fancy. Hershel's is one made for him by his brother, and Wallace uses a square faced mechinist hammer. Good Luck.

Frank House is starting an engraving tutorial on the CLA Facebook site.  He is going to discuss the basic tools needed as well as how to maintain and use them.  Probably worth checking out.

Hi,
There is so much written on this forum about engraving. Use the search function on the upper banner and search for "beginning engraving" or "engraving tools" and restrict your search to the "Gun Building" section.  You will find more info than you can imagine.  Click on the link below for a short essay I wrote for beginners:

With only a square graver you can do 99.9% of the engraving on an ALR.
