A bevy of Bucks
« on: July 04, 2017, 03:12:06 PM »
I have not posted any projects for quite some time; I have just been too busy in the shop.  I know that there are a few Bucks Co rifle aficionados hanging out on the site so this might be the time.  I just completed these three rifles for clients.  They were started at the beginning of June and are rifles 319-321 for me.. I was hoping to catch Mike sometime, but now that he will be handicapped I better not push him.
The rifles show are all copies of the rifles supplied for The Revenant movie.
Best wishes
Ron

I don't think I have ever done triples back to back before, that's quite an undertaking. You shouldn't have any trouble passing me by, I'm healing fast and well, but I have to do the other shoulder this year as well. I'll be doing well to get six guns built for '17, and I'm already 1/2 way there. :P

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

All 3 are beautiful BC LRs and if they're the same as the LRs in the "Revenant", why all the detail?  " The "Revenant" was a dark toned movie and details of the LRs didn't show up..... so these questions are asked......are these 3 BCs embellished more than the movie LRs and why were BC LRs chosen for the movie?

You've certainly built these 3 BC LRs that are very similar to some original LRs built by the original makers and captured  the essence of the BC LR. Thanks for showing such LRs.....Fred

Amazing you did all those in that window of time!  Did you approach some of the decoration in assembly line fashion?  Ex - today we are engraving patch boxes.  The next 3 days is wrist carving.  I'm thinking you probably stained and finished them together.

Those are sharp Ron.  I am sure the customers will be tickled.  So you ran all three at the same time - semi-production line style?  Best wishes, and God Bless,   Marc

Thanks for the nice input on the rifles.  It is rather unusual to have orders for three guns exactly alike and then to have them lined up in the order run to try something like this.  It was kind of like a production run and actually made the building easier.  When I guilt the second gun for the movie, I made very good patterns of the all the carving designs etc.  once you determined the placement of a pattern on one gun it was easy to duplicate two more times.  I usually consider it a good month when I get two rifles out.  Harvest and hunting usually cuts this down for a couple of months...Mike, you will outlast me I just turned 74 yesterday...I hope things go well and you have a short recovery.
All the best,
