linseed oil paint for original looking finish

I have a cheesebox canteen being made for me an wanted an original paint type for the outside. I was told that they used linseed oil paint, about three coats, to get that look. Where can I find a nice chocolate brown linseed oil base paint for my new canteen's paint job?.........something local here in P.A. would be nice. I don't need a gallon just a pint.....I guess!!!.........sonny

 I would suggest a Brown Milk Paint, with an Oil, BLO, Tung or Danish. The Old Fashioned  Genuine Home Made powder works well. Paint it sand it back apply the oil, after sanding you can color any bare wood with stain before the oil if you want.

I would suggest virtually any other color than brown. Back then paint was designed to get rid of brown, since almost everything one owned back then was some shade of brown.

 Here is a cabinet I used Milk Paint an oil on. Paint sand back, stain over paint then oil. The paint color was Sea Green, it came as a powder.

Milk paint is the way to go. This box has green and red. Both traditional. The milk paint was followed by tung oil and then wax.

Wondering, If I use linseed oil paint, can I, after it dries an I rub wear marks in it, use tung oil afterwards?.........sonny
