Most important step...make sure you don't do any work on the barrel you have.  Next step, as others have mentioned it doesn't sound like it should be difficult to exchange it for something else if you are not happy with it.

I guess it doesn't surprise me that they might be offering a "no name" brand barrel, with how spotty barrel availability seems to have been the past several years.  They sure need to be clearly identified as that though before ordering.

I would call Track and talk to them about the issue.  I think the breech plug you have is the size that would come with a Colerain.  I just finished a rifle using a Colerain .54 and it had a 5/8 x 18 thread in the barrel.  I built the rifle, but I would rather have the 3/4 dia plug with a inner shoulder, but I didn't have any build issues with the configuration.  I agree that the look of the lands don't look right for a GM barrel.  Just run it by the folks at Track and see what they can tell you.

That part number is for a generic barrel. I just looked up the part number on Track. It just says Made in the USA. Track put the maker's name in the part number on their barrels. Looks like it is the only 15/16 x 42 .54 that they have in stock now. If it were me, I would send that barrel back and purchase one from a known barrel manufacturer. Too much time and money spent to use a questionable barrel.

This is the barrel from my order form

Track has always been very accommodating if I had a problem, send it back.

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!
So I called TOTW today and expressed my disappointment and the mishap with the parts. They were accommodating and said they would refund me. So I'm sending some things back and will be purchasing a Rice barrel. I'll update again when everything is set and final. Thank you to everyone for your input and help. -Rob

Did ToW say what it was they sent you? IE a Webertown or what?

They didn't give a brand they just said it's made in the USA. So I really don't know who made it.

Glad the return is working out; I would not use that barrel.

Just a thought.  I would send the breech to Jason and ask him to breech the barrel before sending it to you.  It will save you a bit of work.

Seems to me they sent the wrong plug for a mystery barrel that won't work well for patched round ball.  I have never had a problem with TOTW return policy if I didn't start working on the parts.  You should have gotten a return form with your purchase and I'd fill it out and return both the barrel and the plug and let them make it right.

Firms are looking for alternatives to current makers especially when inventories are consistently in back order status.

Roger,
Rice barrels already have the breech plugs installed, correctly I might add.

I don't know who made that barrel, but one of my mentors had an original barrel with narrow grooves, and wide lands, that shot well. This was not an odd configuration in the old days. But, it had to be swabbed after every shot. Those narrow grooves collect lots of fowlings, and stopped doing their job pretty quick. They were also a pain to get clean. I believe these barrels were the reason many old timers shot one day, and cleaned three days. They were also notorious for being hard to get a good patch seal. This may very well be where the very tightly patched loads came from. Some of these old guys were the first ones I ever saw that had a little mallet to drive the load down the bore.

I would call Track, and get the correct answer, as the barrel is from their catalog listing.  Just my thoughts. They can get you the correct plug for it as well.  It could be they pulled the wrong barrel from the bins when they filled your order.
