I am with Curtis on this one. (We took the same class from Jack Brooks) That big lock ended up looking really neat on that skinny gun, I have been very happy with it's performance too. I do prefer Chambers locks overall but Jack had suggested that lock as a match for the original which he had restored. For some reason Curtis, the cock screw that came with my lock is much bigger than the one in your picture. However, looking at pictures of Verner rifles, most of them would be more accurate with some of the locks others have suggested. I really like that Dale Johnson lock and if I was doing most of the other Verner rifles extant, would probably use that one.

That big Davis lock is a real sparker in my experience. Good option for a lock without a frizzen bridle.

You Must have an early version of the Davis Colonial lock.  The new ones appear to have a larger screw. If you still have the rifle maybe you can retro fit ?

I agree, super dependable and incredibly fast for a lock of this size. I've used it several times.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Torfinn,

Yes, I believe it was an early one. I got it directly from Davis, when I ordered it they were temporarily out of stock except for one he had been traveling around with as a display, I told him I would be glad to take it instead of waiting.  The rifle is no longer in my possession.   :(
