Thanks, all!
Mark, I'll most likely have the rifle at the CLA show, please stop by and say "hello".
AsMs, your correct, this lock is not shown on Chambers web site.
It is a rather plain stock, as Taylor pointed out. While I wasn't sure of the specific design when I was thinking about this build, I knew I wanted to do something baroque in style, and probably rather large behind the cheek. With a highly figured stock, the carving has a tendency to be overshadowed by all the wood, so I went with a more plain stock. Many European rifles have rather plain stocks with fairly elaborate carving. This was another reason for the plainer wood as I wanted to portray a strong European connection. Ron mentioned that the carving reminded him of I. Berlin. A couple of Berlin rifles have strong baroque carving, which is an attribute of many European hunting rifles, and again, that was the connection I had in mind.
The carving behind the cheek was inspired by a casting Ron Scott had taken from an original Germanic rifle. I played around with the various elements of that design and came up with what's on this rifle.
Thanks again!
