"Blackened" walnut jaeger stock
« on: September 05, 2017, 04:23:31 AM »
I was looking through Herman Historica past auctions, and I see what in the description is like an ebonized walnut stock on certain rifles. They all date from 1670 to 1690 and are referred to in the descriptions as blackened. So is this just simply ebonized walnut? Maybe a reference to the finish blackening over time? The rifles all have nice polished metal surfaces and white horn nosecaps and rammer tips. The contrast looks stunning. Any thoughts?
