If you've the opportunity, go to Dixons or the CLA in Lexington and 'try' mounting different pieces.  When you find one (won't take long) that gives you the cheek weld, sight picture, grip, etc., that meets with your satisfaction, then take your measurements, cast-off etc.  Good luck!

Cast off is a matter of preference and best used with wide buttplates 2 inches or more.  I hae used about 1/4 inch cast off.  When I built a fowler using a right hand lock I did not use any as I thought I might one day sell it (I am a lefty).  I sold it and the new owner, I was told, really liked the gun.  The first thought that comes to mind for me on drop is to pick up a repo Brown Bess and measure the drop and add one inch as the one I had pounded the heck out of my cheek.

If you don't already have it, order Tom Glinslade"s Flintlock Fowlers. For the price of the book, I felt it was well worth it. It helped me some. ...Geo.
