Metal wood screws
« on: October 14, 2017, 07:40:20 PM »

I hope that there is anyone who can help me.
I am searching already a long time for tiny metal flat screws for my patch boxes.
I cannot buy them in the Netherlands, only brass. That is not a problem.
On Ebay I found screws, but I cannot translate the measures.
They are sold as "Miniature hardware parts pack of 100 small #2 x 1/4 flat head wood screws".
What does this mean and what is the size in mm?

I send a picture of what I have in brass. The length is 5 mm and the flat head is 3mm.
That is about what I need.
Can I buy this screws on Ebay, is it about the same size???

Slightly off-topic, but originally screws to hold brass-whatevers were made of iron(steel) and not brass.

I buy the majority of my steel screws from here <http://www.blacksmithbolt.com/> and for a conversion chart try here<http://www.metric-conversions.org/length/millimeters-to-inches.htm> hope this helps.

Don't forget that your patchbox screws should be iron, not brass

A # 2 screw is .086" or 2.2 mm the length of 1/4" is 6.35 mm and the #2 screws I have the head is .155" or 3.97 mm across.

Adrie, I think Track of the Wolf or Muzzleloading Builders Supply sell what you need in steel.  Send them an email inquiry.  Wormey

Looking at the conversion charts and doing a bit of math, a #2x1/4 wood screw would have a head 4.36mm in diameter, a shank 2.18mm in diameter, and be 6.35mm long.
