An early dirk.
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:09:32 PM »
Another one from years ago.
Made from buggy spring. Handle is maple so not quite right but had to do.
Horn below the top disk as the wood often splits out on these.
Sort of an early dirk, with vestiges of the old balloch dagger.
Light and stays very sharp.
I used to carry it as my "second shot" when hunting with a flintlock rifle.  It worked for its purpose the odd time I had to use it.
Gave it to my daughter for when she is woods walking.

All the best,
Richard.

Very nice work all around for sure. The blade and wood are really tastefully aged as is the sheath. I like the subtle engraving and carving too.

One of the better ones I have seen. Looks like it could have been made from a broken sword tip. Nice handle work without being over the top. I like it.

There is a heck of a lot going on in this project.  Metal, wood, horn all blended together.  Wow!

Pleased you like it, Curtis.
And I like Your work!     :) :)

FWIW, the wee sgian dubh had his handle stained with Fiebing's leather dye. Worn off a bit but it was done years ago.

Best to all,
Richard.
