candle holders
« on: November 20, 2017, 08:49:16 PM »
Except for perhaps knives, we don't seem to see many blacksmithed items in this forum so I though I'd throw a couple out. Perhaps others will follow suit.

These were inspired by similar ones in Plummer's "Colonial Wrought Iron." The first one is a combination splint/candlestick holder. The idea being if you had a guest over you might burn an expensive candle but if it was just you and your wife you'd burn a fatwood splint. The second one is an extendable candlestick holder that you attach to a pole or the post of a straight back chair. They are not works of art but I like them. I've been having great fun going though Colonial Wrought Iron and picking out stuff to make.

Not works of art? Those certainly are art sir and very functional as well. I love them.

Yeah, That's good stuff, there. I have Plummer's book. I think the only thing I ever copied out of it was the mole trap.

Back when there was no such thing as a hardware store, the blacksmith was expected to make or repair just about anything made of metal.  Hinges, latches, andirons, froes, adz's, bridles, buckles, horse and wagon furniture, etc, etc.
