Lancaster rifle

Here`s a Lancaster style rifle ,I just completed for a friend in Texas. 46 in Rice .54 caliber rifled barrel , Chambers Golden Age lock , Davis triggers. All inlays are Sterling silver. I just did it up the way he wanted , probably a little Contemporary . I can`t take good gun pics to save my life , so , excuse the poor pics . Ready to start another . Thanks Nate

I like it.

Do you have a picture of the toe plate? I plan to put one on my Isaac Haines rifle but I am not quite sure how to put it on (got one from Track of the Wolf instead of making my own).

  Nate very fine rifle indeed...Nate I think even in the good ole day's. Pretty sure they built guns to their buyer's request.... Unless it was of multiple design.. WAG anyway..

Nate, your pictures look just fine.  The rifle on the other hand.....looks super. 

I especially like the carving.  Very believably could have come right out of 1799.  The way you worked the blacking in and around the carving makes it "pop" without being overdone. 

The AF color came out lovely.  I also enjoy the brass finish you achieved.  Not too bright, but certainly not dull. 

The rifle looks wonderful, and I'd sure be proud to own that one.  Your friend is going to be over the moon.

THANKS!!! to all who have responded. I appreciate the nice comments . The rifle balanced out nicely and had a good feel to  it. I will say that the front  site was left high , for the owner to sight it to his wishes . I will be the first person to admit that I have struggled with the artistic aspects of gunbuilding. Art has never came to me easily. I am able to get the mechanical , and , shaping parts fairly easily . 18th Century art forms were not something that came easily to me at all ! I had the opportunity to work with Ron Ehlert  when I was young , and it was quite intimidating , yet inspiring ! He was a SUPER! good artist and, he made it look easy . Looks can be deceiving to say the least!. I do plan to take a good class in engraving . I have basically had instruction from a few good engravers over the years , but I really need a focused class on it. I do thank ALL for the kind words . Thanks Nate

Since no one has mentioned it, I appreciate those football escutcheons going out the forend for loops and draws.  I know those are hard to get matching, and represent a lot of inlay work.  Ed Wenger showed me how those are done, so I have an inkling of the effort involved.  God Bless,   Marc
