Southwest Trapper's Knife

Not sure if this fits in here...but I know the fur trade did migrate south into the Taos area.  Just trying to justify this blade for my possibles bag and my 54 Cal Hawken. I was playing around with some punky burly Walnut with voids. Stabilized Walnut with super glue and filled voids with Turquois sand.  Knife is 9 inches OAL...tippit

Very nice work. I just spent a few days in Santa Fe/Taos and saw quite a few custom knives with Turquoise

Pretty, but if to be HC/PC, a trapper would most likely have just a simple thin bladed trade knife.

You are right, a trapper would have a much simpler knife...but I wasn't sure what to call it or if it even belonged on ALR. 

As a side note...I do have a couple trappers in northern Maine who like my small skinners for beaver.

  Beaver fried in lard is some of the bestest meat I've ever eaten. Not the tail, but the rest of it. It ranks close to bacon with me.

Black bears love beaver too.  We used a bunch when I was helping run a traditional bow hunting camp in Quebec for twelve years.
