I finished this today for a friend. It’s made from 6-7 oz. split grain leather. I wasn’t sure if I would like the rough texture but I like it a lot. Instead of stitching, I opted for homemade rivets. I only initially planned to use one rivet at the top to strengthen the beginning of the seam but liked the look.

That should serve your friend well ! Interesting rivets. Could you share the materials and techniques used in making them ? David.

The rivets are just pieces of brazing rod I had laying around. I peen the first head with the rivet in a vise. Used a couple of small steel washers, one on each side. I drill a hole through the leather with a bit the same diameter  as the rivet so its a snug fit. Then I lay the rivet head on a little divet on my anvil and peen over the second head.
