Left hand Late Ketland lock
« on: December 29, 2017, 05:54:44 AM »
I looked at Chamber's, Davis, and L&R and couldn't find a Late Ketland lock in lefty.

Anyone know if there is anyone who sells them?

Or, is there an existing left handed lock I could modify to look Late Ketland-ish?

How about the Chamber's gun maker's lock?  Is there enough meat on the pan to round it out like a late Ketland?  Looks to me like this might be the best option.

Thanks in advance,
Norm

Norm, the L&R  Durs Egg would probably work.  A Siler or the Chambers gunmaker's lock could be modified or made to resemble a Chambers late Ketland.  If you have Jon Schippers book "Engraving Historic Firearms", he has some good photos of an Eglish-a-sized Siler locks in there.

Curtis,
thanks, I completely missed that the L&R Durs Egg came in left handed.  Must not have looked close enough at the website.  I think that will be about perfect.  Just have to measure the one I'm trying to copy to confirm.

Cheers,
Norm

Norm, I think I used the L & R Manton for this project, it is made in lefty as well.  What style of rifle are you building?

A bit of refilling on the end of the plate would make it close in appearance.
If I EVER get my energy level back up again I am considering making up
a few of these on the Durs Egg externals.Time alone will determine this.
