Switching a Percussion barrel over to Flintlock
« on: December 29, 2017, 03:56:24 AM »
Hello, I'm looking for some info on switching a TC Hawken percussion barrel over to a flint lock. I see they sale a breech plug on TOW for the hawken barrel. Can i remove the Percussion breech and install the new one then drill the barrel to fit my lock. I just found a good deal on a percussion barrel but wanted to ask the pro's before i did this.

I think the T/C Hawken has a 15/16 barrel. TOW's 15/16 plug has 5/8x18 tread and doesn't fit T/C barrels.
Sorry, my mistake, I see they have a 15/16 plug with 11/16x20 thread. Just fit the plug and time it so your sights on the top and rib on the bottom.

Thank You, I ordered one this morning. The price was right on the percussion barrel. I couldn't pass it up. Some of the prices for the flintlocks on E-bay are just way out of my league. You can go on one of the gun auction sites and buy a complete gun for what they are asking for a barrel or very close to it. Well, I have to get out and plow the driveway again. Have a Blessed Day.

I made a vise block for the barrel out of a block of acrylic and the breech plug turned right out with a 14" crescent wrench. The bore is in great shape. No pitting and the rifling is nice and sharp. If the barrel was shot it was well taken care of. My Son wants to build flintlock pistols, So we might be looking at a winter project :D

Ahh, the building bug has bit you both.  A great way to spend time with your son.  Cool.

P.S. - Did you receive the PM I sent you?
