im a big fan of being different or an odd ball in the woods i hunt most guys are toting cva rifles with shotgun primers and little whimpy powerbelt bullets. I hunt with extra large conical bullets between 410 grains to 600 grains in older plunger guns. looking to get into the sidelock game this spring and want to be different  than most in that as well. Ive been drooling over Doc Whites bridger hawken here lately 50 cal fast twist for shooting my big conicals, but at the same time Ive been thinking a super slow twist rifle in 4,6,or 8 bore for huge round balls would be right up my alley.

i agree and im sure the mule deer would be less than impressed with a 4 bore round ball! might even draw a moose tag one of these years not that my 45 wont kill them just as dead but i still feel it would be quite impressive to see a BIG round ball smack them ribs.

I have no problem killing elk with a .54 round ball. I like to be different too, but I need a good reason to do it and it needs to serve a purpose. I never considered overkill a good reason.

there is no good reason outside of fun for me to own or hunt with a big bore rifle, but it would sure be fun! that and the local club told me i couldnt shoot with them shooting my conicals but i could shoot ANY round ball i wanted.

The round ball would be just short of half a pound and if I shot it a 25 gr. charge would be plenty!  ;D   :)

I'm guessing the somewhat flatter round ball. Is the one that the prairie dog sat on so he could see better?
