Mike, I contacted Mr T. about this thread, and he knows 2 folks with your name.    :-)  Glad he doesn't mean there are two of You! LOL!
Are you who he used to call Col Hawker?  or is that someone else?  :-)

I know who you're talking about, I'm shocked you can understand him, always had difficulty communicating with him, my Midwestern ear just can't get it. Never figured him for the marrying type, wife must be the most patient woman in the world!

I agree communication through his then  letters was  difficult.

No never had an AKA of col. Hawker. Only place I ever saw Mr. T was at Friendship. Always enjoyed his visits, just only got 1/2 of what he said. My fault, not his. I had people tell me his accent is common for where he lived.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Mike,
Back home you could go 20 miles and have a hard time understanding the locals!
Recall going as a kid to our shoot at Egton Bridge, I think 18 miles away.  Old gamekeeper asked me, "What skael does thee gan tiv?"
At the time I was lost!
(What school do you go to)
