Dragon rasp

I just got my package from StewMac 1 coarse and 1 fine. They are amazing and the sharpest smoothest cutting rasps I have used. They have a protective coating and I am not sure what it is. I tried alcohol, acetone, MEK and mineral spirits. Anybody have an idea what it is? Should it be removed? Will it improve performance if removed?

Yes, those are good rasps. I left the coating on mine, it does the job just fine.

Easy Off oven cleaner will often peel a finish off metal.

I posted about the Dragon rasps a few days ago and as Dave said "I left the coating on" so I did as well.
In case anybody is not familiar with these here are some pictures.
Far left is the fine, center is the coarse far right is a Nicholson #50 that I used to think was fine.
