Flat Horn w/screw tip

Flattened this horn and decided to put lead oxide spots on it. I have had good results with applying the lead oxide/lime solution to heated horn. I use a counter top oven to dry heat the horn to 200 deg. Apply two sets of dots and then back into the oven and repeat. I have also used a small artist brush to dab some of the lye/water solution on to the mix while its on the horn. Good color and no fading so far.
Collar and tip were dyed with potassium permangenate in water solution.

"Spot Jr."   :-)  Really cool little horn Ron.  It looks like it'd be really nice as a bag horn.  The screw tip looks really good, and I like the color you got on it.  Deep, and reminds me of a tip Art would make.  Your spots came out nice and solid, and look sharp against the yellow.  Well done Ron!   God Bless,   Marc

Nice horn!  I’ve a candidate for flattening in my “to do” box, your horn might inspire me to get ‘er done.

I use different diameters of wood dowel. I round the ends of the dowel a little to avoid "fish eye" look. If the dowel is flat at the end you can end up with circles. I like the LO paste to be close to toothpaste consistency and rotate the dowel a little as you apply to give an even layer.

Very well done Ron. I believe the tip will fade long before the spots. I have had little success with Potassium Permangenate.
