Here's a little sumpthin'
« on: March 05, 2018, 02:34:53 AM »
Copy of a John Sheetz rifle. Hardy piece of Iowa walnut with curl, Rice southern classic in .50, Davis late Ketland lock modified Davis set triggers. Will have some more sterling inlay and wire plus a typical Sheets patch box engraved in Sheets style. I'm agonizing wether or not to put the little silver acorns around the star ala Sheets, but don't want to clutter every thing up. Already got them cut out.....just don't know. Gonna have a vent pick inlay as well, probably in brass. Semi fancy gun, but not near as fancy as Mr. Big Shot Fancy Pants Dave Rase's Sheets rifle he did several months ago......show off... :P
Patch box is this weeks project, already got about 24" of silver wire coming off that ckeek piece star since the photo.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Could be you Mr. Happy. I'm building this for my own entertainment while I'm also working on a Eddie Marshal gun at the same time for a customer.

Mike,

Is that Wallynut from the fence row or the neighbors yard?
Last tree I cut was in my dads yard, really open grain, but I am still gonna stock it. And the squirrels left before I served the Stihl eviction notice, that's a rough ride down for little critters.

No, this is from a bluff overlooking the Mississippi river where I used to hunt squirrels as a kid. I probably pee'd on this tree more than once back in the day! ;)

Hope you didn't leave any yella streaks in the wood!
