Form Blocks

Through the years have made these form blocks mainly for Pboxes but one is for a BC entry pipe. Most of the builders probably use similar forms but for the newer builders, these pics might be of some  use. Some of the blocks are  used in a vise and others are just hit w/ a heavy mallet.....Fred

Th pics of the from blocks are followed by pics of the the parts..The last form should be for a parallel sided BC pPbox or a slightly angle sided BC Pbox.

I agree that Fred is chalked full of talent.  But I don't think you should dismiss yourself for not possessing talent.  I am convinced that a great part of what we see as talent is simply high motivation.  For example, I would love to be an excellent engraver, like John Schippers or Jerry Huddelston.  But I am not prepared to spend the time practicing and perfecting technique and execution.  So I content myself with mediocrity.  As your commitment increases, you will find your 'talent' also increases.

Thanks to all for the kind remarks....but, Taylor is correct in that motivation and perseverance do a lot of the "work" in accomplishing expertise in any craft.

But, certain individuals have inherent artistic talent that many of us don't have and that's just a fact of life.....motivation and perseverance only go so far and then inherent talent enables work that's not  attainable by most people.

My background in toolmaking and tool designing  enables me to make the forms w/o much effort,.....where I struggle is w/ the artistic embellishments, eg.....properly shaping a stock and carving and I don't engrave because early on just wanted to build some personal MLers for hunting and then later on my eyes wouldn't allow it. 

But...I do think that many people w/ a lot of motivation and perseverance can produce MLers that are correctly built and pleasing to the eye and therefore  appealing to many.....Fred
