Flintlocks for young段ns.
« on: March 31, 2018, 02:20:55 AM »
Something really exciting happened last week for us at the Kodiak Baptist Mission. We had applied to the National Rifle Association Foundation for a grant to fund the construction of five flintlock rifles in our wood shop by father/son, mother/son, father/ daughter, mother/ daughter , grandpa/grandkid well you get the idea. Our fall is long and dark and we thought this would be a perfect opportunity to blend ministry with a family core building activity.  We WON!    I didn稚 think we had a chance. The grant was actually put together with the intent to purchase 5 of Jim Kibler痴 Southern Mountain rifles as the platforms for contsruction. I have never actually seen on of these but I was so impressed by the comments of many of you concerning not only ease of construction but overall quality that I was sold on trying them. Not only will these family building teams get the benefit of working together in the end they will have a nice flintlock to take home. This work  will not only be documented and released throughout our considerable online presence but it will be taken nationally as well.  We are 100% committed to using this type of thing to strengthen our families.  The young man in the picture is holding the last rifle I built before leaving WV for AK. It痴 his now and you see also a picture of him at a match.

Carper,

Well Done!  Both the insight to approach NRA and getting that done for these family's and your missionary work.

When I was that young mans age, that would have been an unbelievable dream come true to have a rifle like that. Never the less to be part of finishing "my" gun.  Ol' Daniel (Fess Parker) set the hook at about 9 yrs old and it never went away.

Jim Kibler's kits are first class in all of the parts and for the NRA to fund
something like this is a wonder of the modern world. They seem to be
wound up in politics more than historic rifles.
