Small horn powder flask.
« on: April 10, 2018, 04:47:30 AM »
Tim C,

Here are a few photos of a small horn powder flask.
This one sort of pear-shaped and top is also the powder measure, plus the bottom unscrews for filling.
This in the only one I have found  quite like this.

It comes from the UK.

All the best,

Richard.

Very neat thread cutting. Don't know how they did that!

I figured you would want a few photos of details Tim.

Richard.

Richard,
Is it horn, or wood?
Either way...... who would say.... hey, I've got an idea.  This should be easy?!?
That is very, very cool.  But crazy!

Dane

Homer Simpson??   :)

Yes it Is horn.   Somebody knew his onions to turn something like this. It is thin!
I have tried threading horn, and Tim gave me good pointers on it, but How they threaded this, I am at a loss to ascertain.

Here's another that I don't own, and had forgotten about the photo till looking for something else;

I like the other little bloke pictured above as well.  The cap is the powder measure.

Thanks for the Pix, those are Great. They are a bit out of my realm but there are folks here that are familiar with them.

I have seen several of these containers and own one, but they are not terribly common. However, yours is the first I've seen with strap attachments. Nice repair, too. All are very close in size and the workmanship is first rate. It would take a first rate turner, but if that is what you all day long it would get "easier". Thanks for sharing the images.

I've seen samples like the last one. The first one is the only one I have seen like it. Thanks so much for sharing.
