What kind of wood is on this carbine?

I thought that the wood in the stock of the carbine was unusual, not to mention the carbine itself. Any ideas of the kind of wood? It almost looks like curley ash to me.

Most curly ash I've seen has a more vivid stripe pattern. Could this be a light colored curly walnut? Shelby Gallien
