J P Beck Lock
« on: March 10, 2018, 10:02:12 PM »
I just received this little jewel from Stan Hollenbaugh today. It is strong and Quick! The size of a small Siler, it is based on an original Beck lock created by Robert Ditchburn and continued by Stan after purchasing Bob's lockworks from him around 2002. Stan's locks are individually made and the springs are handforged and guaranteed for life! This one has been glass bead blasted. You can get it with a brass plate too.
Can anyone share their experience with the use of these locks?

I have the smaller version for a pistol.

Amazing little lock.  Quality is incredible for the price. Mine came polished.

I haven't put it in a gun yet...a Beck turkey smasher jumped place in line lol.

I'm using one of Stans silver heart shaped sights on the turkey gun. I also have an order in for one of his single set triggers for my next rifle.

Nice guy and always a pleasure to do business with him.

I have used that very lock on several Beck copies that have been in the field, one for nearly 10 years.  They are great locks and very correct for that build...Ron

Tom,

I used that lock in a Beck rifle, married with one of Stan's single set triggers. Mine was glass bead blasted as well.

It's an excellent and reliable lock. A lot of sparks!

I've used both the large one and the pistol lock.  They work like a fine watch.
Excellent little lock.
I have a pistol for sale in themfor sale section with one on it.

I have what Stan calls the "curved belly Ditchburn."  It's like a Swiss watch.

I've been looking at the Lefthand Armstrong lock. How is this lock's size compared to the large siler? I mean will if fit the same mortice?

I had the Armstrong and not even close to fitting the mortise of siler.  Very narrow lock being somewhere in the area of 3/4" wide.  Sold it and got the left hand f&I which is nice but still smaller than siler.

I suppose I am going down this road. Nice to hear all the good comments. Is there a lead time or does he have a supply of already built? As I wonder if I should order ASAP or just order when I am ready for it?

Give Stan a call or email, he was great to work with. I think he "cooks them up while you wait", but he might have some finished locks on hand.
I think mine took 3-4 weeks to get. Worth the wait!
