A Bit Of A Different Philly Style Horn

 My take of another of the Great horns in Art DeCamp's wonderful book
Pennsylvania "horns of the Trade" Screw-tip Powder Horns and Their Architecture. Horn #4, page 42.
 It is about 12 1/2" around the outside curve, the Walnut base is hollowed out and held in place by 4 nails. The loop is twisted and the two ends are spread out in the hollow. The tip and collar are horn, the collar is not threaded but fit to the threaded horn, 5/8-11 NC. Collar held in place by staple.
 I thought this one unique in that it has a painted design on it. The painting on this was done by my wife Carly.

Nice work, Tim!  I remember seeing that horn in Art's book;  your wife did a nice job with the black and green design on it.  Love those early Philly horns. (I have one made by you, and one made by Art  )

That is some seriously fine turning and threading on the tip Tim. Intricate and elegant. Now that I've taken a turning class, I know how hard that is.
Tell Mrs C that I like her decoration. I couldn't see both colors at first, but she chose well and has a steady hand.

Excellent rendition Tim!  I had the pleasure to see the original in person last month when I attended Roland and Art's horn class in Holidaysburg, Pa.  While I didn't copy it, I certainly used the base plug and collar/tip as a basis for my horn.  Art also had a couple more of the originals there and it's hard to grasp how large these were when only using pictures to go by.  They were large horns.  For instance, the horn I copied had a threaded collar/tip using a 11/16 tap and die and did the same on mine.  Interesting to say the least.  If anyone gets a chance to take a class by Art and/or Roland, get on the list.  You will gain knowledge, experience and confidence more than for the price of admission and will not be disappointed.  Did I mention the great lunches provided, lol.
