Fowler for my father
« on: August 01, 2018, 01:34:39 AM »
Here is a fowler I built for my father. It’s meant to be a provincial piece made in New England. It’s stocked by me from New York cut cherry. The furniture is off a variety of civilian guns. Some made by me, some purchased and altered. As you can see it’s made to look old. That’s a request my father asked for after ageing one of my other builds. Critiques and comments are always welcomed.

Very cool. I like that a lot. What are the specs? It looks like a pretty good sized bore.

Right up my alley, I like it.

Say, any of you boys smithies? Or, if not smithies per se, were you otherwise trained in the metallurgic arts before straitened circumstances forced you into a life of aimless wanderin'?

Thanks everyone for the positive comments. To answer some questions it only 62 caliber, 42" barrel. Gun weighs in the 7 lbs range. I delivered it to him today. He was very happy. What more can a son ask for! Ageing the firearm was my favorite part of the whole build. Inletting and shaping is fun, but ageing brought whole new ideas and techniques to experiment with. Loved doing it.
