It’s embarrassing to even post this after seeing all the expert craftsmanship but here it is.  My first attempt at a shooting bag.  It floats my boat until I find something on historically correct bags.  Then I’m sure I’ll get totally obsessed and spend a small fortune making another one.

No,  the horn came from crazy crow trading post.  I did the hemp weaving and some sewing with hemp thread.  The bag is a modified kit they have.  I bought the buckles off eBay and still have some elk horn buttons I don’t know what to do with.

Did you have a pattern to work from or did you just eyeball it and draw it out on the leather?

The reason I'm asking is that I want to make my first shooting bag and the double shoulder piece of leather got delivered today.  Using my Google-Fu, I didn't find many patterns when I was searching the net last week.

I used the first kit from Crazy Crow and replaced the simulated sinew with hemp string.  They didn’t list the larger deluxe bag when I bought mine but I’ll be purchasing it for this next gun.  It’s a good foundation to work with and to customize.  For the price of leather, it’s not a bad price.   There’s plans with the kit.  I plan to take a couple deer and make some more bags and such.  I lived in Alaska several years and taught myself taxidermy,  so messing with raw skins isn’t an issue.
