So I'm wanting to try and build a bag or 2 but the local leather  shops prices seem pretty high. Does anybody know of a good online source

Buy it from your local Tandy store (if you have one near you.).  You can sort through their stock and pick what you like--impossible to do online.   Plus you're supporting a local business and the smell of all that leather when you walk in the door is a bonus.  My two cents.

Check out his page. He has a ton of leather,all kinds. He answers he e-mail FAST! Excellent service and a real straight business guy!  He WANTS you happy with your purchase.

Tandy has 1st rate leather,and when I’m near one,I always stop. Usually some type of finding or tool I’ll need. And the stores usually have some type of in store sale or special.

I try and spread my dollars around our “hobby”,but,90% of my leather comes from George,AND Kentucky Hide and Leather. They have the best price on dye,and the Raw hide bundle for @ $20.00 has given me more rawhide than I’ll use in 3 years!(unless more guys want more sheaths(hint hint!)🤪🤪🤪

And there are a few on E-Bay who have great leather. Landerwellans(sp?),in Indianapolis is an AWESOME place to visit. My Grandfather use to take me there from Detroit,where our family’s Antique Restoration business was,for leather used on leather top desks,tables and inside Italian Armoire’,and Irish Grand Parlor Clocks(the chime is exquisite!).

Mainly my leather purchases was for wallets, belts and saddlebags.   Carving and stamping leather, known as veg tanned leather.  The leather from Springfield was always number one quality, I never had a problem with their orders.

I buy most of my leather from the Tandy store in Columbus Ohio. I buy full sides that are seconds. They might have scratches, bug bites or brands or some other marks that makes with a beautiful hunting pouch when they are finished and antiqued. I get 2/3 oz leather and I have bought them for less than $50 each and you can make lots of bags from a side. Have fun and let us see the end results when you are finished.
