Fort Astoria Fantasy Gun

This is my rendition of a gun built of scrap parts at Fort Astoria. My story line is as follows: The barrel and lock were salvaged from a wrecked North West trade gun. The barrel was considerably shortened due to being fired when plugged with snow. The trigger guard was re purposed from a English Fowler that found its way to the Fort. The maple to build the stock came from New England on a trading ship. The butt plate thimbles and side nail washers were fashioned from copper salvaged from one of the many ships wrecked while attempting to cross the ever treacherous Columbia Bar.

Well, I like it! I’m considering a similar build, on the premise of a composite gun stocked up somewhere on the NC/VA/TN frontier. Sort of a “southern mountain shotgun”. Should make a dandy turkey gun.

Fort Astoria covers a long period. From about 1812 to past 1850. Weren't very many long rifles out west but some.
