Persimmon and Pear blank source
« on: November 28, 2018, 02:27:39 PM »
I have a desire to build a SMR from persimmon and pear, but don’t have any idea of a dealer or source to obtain it from. Looking for any information on where I might find good quality blanks. Any info on potential problems with either is also appreciated.

If you are doing all the inlet work i.e. barrel and ram rod. You will need a drill with some power and not a cordless one. The two stocks that I have done were very hard to drill the ramrod hole. Tried the first one with my cordless drill like I would with maple, it worked for about two inches maybe a bit more.

Persimmon is hard.

Is has been used for golf club heads.

Persimmon janka is 2300.

Sugar maple is 1450.

I have a heavy duty drill and like new RR drill bit.  Slow and steady. Also want to try pear wood and should have included it.

Updated to include pear wood.
